How Google Search Rankings Work.

First, let’s look at the basics of how Google works.

Google has what they call Spiders that crawl the web.
The Spiders are automated bot software that search or crawl the web cataloging all the web pages of the internet.

That’s a lot of freaking webpages. Billions…Trillions.

What do people do when they want to find something on the internet?

We type or say a few related words about what we’re trying to find right? Those words are what we call Keywords.
Google then displays what it thinks are the best results base on the keywords given.

Wait, there’s more. It’s not just about keywords that determine search rankings.

Here are 4 more factors Google looks for to determine search ranking.

  1. Google searches your website to try and understand how the content of your site is structured. It searches for what’s called a Site Map.
  2. The page speed results or how fast the web pages of your website load. Good hosting and properly coded and optimized site will help with that.
  3. Does your website have an SSL Certificate?
  4. Mobile friendly website. That is a website that looks good on a variety of devices. Phone and Tablets of all display sizes. That’s also part of a properly developed website.

If you make sure your website passes what we discussed here, then you are on the right track.

Hope this helped explain some of the basics a gives you at least a better understanding of SEO.
