We’ve all seen the ads:
“Build your own website for just $30/month!”
It sounds like a no-brainer, especially for a small business trying to keep costs low. A professional-looking website, for the price of a pizza night? Who wouldn’t want that?
I get it. Really, I do.
When you’re running a small business, you’re wearing a dozen hats and trying to make smart choices with your budget. So when someone promises an “easy button” to build your own website and be up and running in a day, it’s incredibly tempting to jump in headfirst.
But here’s the thing: I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years, and what I do looks easy only because I’ve spent years learning and still continue to learn more everyday. I try to keep all the technical jargon away from you as much as I can so you can run your business and not have to worry about it.
There’s a difference between having a website and having a website that works. One that builds trust, brings in business, loads quickly, works on mobile, shows up in search results, and doesn’t break everytime something is changed, stays up to date and secure. Those little details, security, SEO, load speed, conversion optimization—are often missing or lacking from the $30 website-in-a-box services or the low-cost freelancer who says they know what they’re doing, but first time something goes wrong and breaks or site is breached, that’s when you question their skills.
That’s why, when a new potential client approaches me, I prefer to be the one they contacted after they experience other options.
My most rewarding partnerships are with clients who have already run the gauntlet. They’ve navigated the limitations of DIY builders and the headaches of budget freelancers who vanished when things got tough. They don’t need me to explain the cost of cutting corners they’ve experienced it.
Because they value doing it right the first time, they aren’t just one off projects; they’re clients who stay with me for years.
If you’re currently in the DIY phase, I say go for it. Truly. There’s no better way to understand the moving parts of your business. Just know that when you’re ready to move from ‘making it work’ to ‘making it scale’ and you need a foundation that won’t buckle under pressure, I’ll be here to help you build it.
Your business has leveled up. Your website should, too.
If you’ve outgrown the DIY phase and are ready for a platform that drives growth instead of just keeping up with it, let’s talk. We’ll move past the “good enough” fixes and build a high performance site that works as hard as you do.
